John has no 'natural' form. He once wore the title of Hastur, the Unspeakable One, Lord of Interstellar spaces, the King, in Yellow, and the King never appears the same way to two people. He is, by his nature, amorphous and to some degree, so is John. Instead, his looks are more of an idea that shifts just a little for everyone who sees him:
if he chooses to look like a human, his hair is dark and long and his eyes are golden. His skin tends to be darker and sometimes, when he is feeling the most comfortable, there are lines of gold like cracks 'healed' over with kintsugi. Along his arms are tattoos as black as the void of space, so dark you almost think you can see stars, that look like tentacles writhing over the muscle. Elsewhere, there are arcane symbols on his skin that almost look like scars.
if he chooses to look inhuman, he most often will be in a yellow robe, tattered somehow but once resplendent. Sometimes his face is a white mask with the same crack as on his human form and other times it is a black void, flat and mask-like, with two horns, one cracked. His 'mouth' is beneath the mask, a great gaping maw. He has claws and his lower half is a nest of endless tentacles, dark as the night and filled with even darker stars that almost appear like smoke.

John will generally present as male but he's an eldritch horror: 100% does not conform to the gender binary and has no particular comfort or connection to one or the other. He is partially formed by the perception of others, and he's been called 'he' and given a masculine name due to sharing a body with a human man and having a very deep voice. His 'equipment' can and will shift depending on his desire and his partner's (and will usually shift to be what his partner desires so... if you're looking for X, congrats, you found it!), and he can and will happily experiment with other presentations at times, once it occurs to him. (He's new to this body having business and being a person business, and his main touchstone for humanity is from 1934. It's not for lack of elasticity. Just lack of knowledge.)
